Your publication will be opened in the Content Editor mode:

Let’s look at how you can add videos and links in detail.

Embedding videos using FlippingBook Online

To embed a video, first upload it to one of these services – YouTube, Vimeo, or Wistia.

Next, you need to get a link to your video. To get a link, open your video on YouTube or Vimeo and copy the video URL from your browser address bar.

If you have an account with Wistia, just open your video project in your account, open the video and copy its URL from your browser address bar at the top of the web page:

Now you are all set to embed your video into your publication. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open your publication in the Content Editor mode
  2. Press the Add video button at the top of the Content Editor page.
  3. Insert your video link from YouTube, Vimeo, or Wistia.
  4. Click Confirm.

Next, you can adjust your video size and position. The blue rectangle indicates the area for your video. You can change the position of your video by clicking inside the rectangle and dragging it with your mouse. You can resize the video area by dragging any of the blue square handles.

Now, take a look at the Video settings section located to the right of the publication. Here you can change the settings for your video:

The link for your video is shown in the Video URL field, you can edit it if needed.

You can now set up the Playback Mode for your video. The Playback Mode determines how your video is opened in publication. There are two options available:

  • Auto mode - gives you the opportunity to play a video directly within your publication;
  • Popup mode -  in this mode, your video will play in a pop-up window.
Note!   If you set playback mode to Auto, your video can play either within your publication or in a pop-up window. Your video will play in a pop-up window in the following cases:
  • if you view your publication on a smartphone that runs iOS;
  • if you open your publication in Safari on a desktop;
  • if your video is placed in the middle of a wide page;
  • if the height of your video is less than 144 pixels. Also, this parameter can change if you resize the window of your browser.
In all other cases, your video will play inside your publication page in Auto playback mode.

For the Auto playback mode, you can configure the following settings:

  • Autoplay -  use this setting to start playing the video automatically when the page containing the video is opened.
  • Start at - use this setting to make your video start playing at a specific time. This option will work for Youtube and Wistia, but not for Vimeo videos.

Note!  Please note that different browsers have varying autoplay policies aimed at improving user experience. Autoplay policies can change and have a tendency to become stricter. For example, at the time of writing, Google Chrome would allow video autoplay with sound only under certain conditions. It is highly recommended to familiarise yourself with browser autoplay policies to make an informed decision about using the Autoplay option.

For the Popup playback mode, you can enable the following options:

  • Show preview - enable this option to show a YouTube/Vimeo/Wistia thumbnail of your video in your publication.
  • Start at - use this setting to make your video start playing at a specific time. This option will work for YouTube and Wistia, but not for Vimeo videos.

You can adjust your video size and position by changing the settings in the Position and Size section:

Once you have configured the settings for your video, press the Finish button in the top right corner of the Content Editor page to save the changes.

If you want to delete your video, press the Remove video button at the bottom of the Content Editor.

Note!  When you embed a video into your FlippingBook Online publication, you’re using content not hosted by FlippingBook. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that it complies with the GDPR rules.

Adding and editing links in your publication

Once you created a publication, you can edit the links that FlippingBook Online extracted automatically, or add new ones. All web addresses, emails, and phone numbers that are found in your PDF are automatically converted into links.

There are two types of links you can add to your publication:

  • Web address - for this type of link, you can specify a URL. When a reader clicks on the link, the URL is opened in a new tab of their browser. You can also enter an email address. In this case, when the link is clicked, FlippingBook Online will try to open the email app and create a new message addressed to the specified email. If you enter a telephone number, then clicking on a link will bring up a call dialogue when your publication is viewed on mobile.
  • Page - for this type of link, you can enter a page number. Clicking on the link will take your reader to the specified page of your publication.

To add a link, follow these steps:

  1. Open your publication in the Content Editor mode
  2. While in the Content Editor, press the Add link button at the top of the page.
  3. Choose the Web address option or the Page option:

  4. Depending on the option selected in the previous step, insert your link or indicate a page number.
  5. Adjust the link area. The link area is indicated by a green rectangle. You can change the position of your link area by clicking inside the rectangle and dragging it with your mouse. You can also resize the area by dragging any of the green square handles:

    Alternatively, you can change your link area using the settings in the Position and Size section:

  6. Click the Finish button in the top right corner of the Content Editor page to save your changes.

If you want to delete your link, just click the Remove link button at the bottom of the Content Editor.

We support links to websites, phone numbers, and email addresses.

If your link was added with the indication of a certain protocol, FlippingBook Online won’t change it.

If a protocol is not defined for your link, FlippingBook Online will try to guess what kind of link you've meant to create. For example, here is how your link will be interpreted:

- https://example.com – absolute Internet URL;

- mailto: test12@flippingbook.com – email;

- tel:+1-234-567-8901, sms:+1-234-567-8901 – phone number.
