How do I open my flipbook in the Editor mode?

To open your flipbook in the Editor mode, do the following:

  1. Go to the Flipbooks tab in your account.
  2. Hover over the flipbook where you want to add a video, a link, or an image.
  3. Click the button with more options and choose the Editor (video, links, etc.) option:

This opens the Editor mode for your flipbook:

Now, let’s take a closer look at how you can add videos, links, and images to your flipbook.

How to add Youtube, Vimeo, and Wistia videos into my flipbook?

To add a video to the book, you should first upload it to one of these services – YouTube, Vimeo, or Wistia. If you’ll try to add a video from any other hosting service the Editor won’t recognize it and will give you an error message.

Next, you need to get a link to your video. To get a link, open your video on YouTube or Vimeo and copy the video URL from your browser address bar. If you have an account with Wistia, just open your video project in your account, open the video and copy its URL from your browser address bar at the top of the web page:

Now you are all set to add your video to the flipbook. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open your flipbook in the Editor mode.
  2. Use the arrows next to the page or the paginator at the bottom to move to the page where you want to add your video.
  3. Press the Video button in the menu pane on the left-hand side.
  4. This will open a popup dialog. Copy/paste your video link from YouTube, Vimeo, or Wistia here.
  5. You can now adjust your video size and position:
    • Click on the video’s preview and drag it around the screen with your mouse.
    • Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to nudge the video by a single pixel into its final position.
    • Resize the video by clicking on one of the edges and drag till the desired size.

Now, let’s take a look at the Video settings section located to the right of the flipbook:

Your video link is shown in the Video URL field. You can edit it if you want to replace the current video with another video.

The Playback Mode determines how your video is opened in a flipbook. Two options are available: Inline and Popup.

Example of an inline video playing  Example of a popup video playing
  • Inline mode - this embeds the video directly into the flipbook page so that it looks like a part of your page. There are two additional settings that you can use:
    • Autoplay - your video starts playing automatically when the reader opens the page with the video;
    • Start at - your video starts at a specific time when played (Youtube and Wistia videos only).
  • Popup mode - when the user clicks on the video, this opens a near full-sized pop-up window where your video is played. Your flipbook will fade to the background. When the reader closes the popup, they will return to the flipbook. In this mode, you can enable the following settings:
    • Show preview - displays a YouTube/Vimeo/Wistia video thumbnail on the page in your flipbook.
    • Start at - your video starts at a specific time when played (Youtube and Wistia videos only).

You can adjust your video size and position settings in the Position and Size section by typing the values manually. This is useful if you have several videos on the same page and want them to have exactly the same size:

To apply all the settings for your video, press the Finish button in the top left corner.

If you want to delete your video, press the Remove video button at the bottom of the Editor.

How do I create and edit links using the Editor?

Once you created a flipbook, you can edit the links that were extracted automatically, or add new ones. All web addresses, emails, and phone numbers found in your PDF are automatically converted into links.

You can add two types of links to your flipbook:

  • Web address - you specify a webpage URL and when a reader clicks on the link, that webpage will open in a new tab. It’s also possible to enter an email address. In this case, FlippingBook Online will try to open an email app and create a new message addressed to the specified email. If you enter a telephone number, then clicking on a link will bring up a call dialogue when your flipbook is viewed on mobile.
  • Page - go to another page in your current flipbook.

To add a link, follow these steps:

  1. Open your flipbook in the Editor mode.
  2. Use the arrows next to the page or the paginator at the bottom to move to the page where you want to add your link.
  3. Press the Link button in the menu pane on the left-hand side.
  4. Choose the Web address option or the Page option:

  5. Depending on the option selected in the previous step, insert the link to the website or indicate a page number. If you use Web address then simply paste the URL. But if you want to use an email address, then use mailto:youremail@yourcompany.com. To add a phone number, use tel:+1-541-754-3010
  6. Adjust the link area, indicated by a green rectangle.
    • Click on the link and keep the mouse pressed to drag it to the desired position.
    • Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to nudge the link by a single pixel into its final position.
    • Resize the link by clicking on one of the edges and drag to the desired size.

      Alternatively, you can change your link area using the settings in the Position and Size section:

If you want to delete your link, just click the Remove link button at the bottom of the Editor.

How do I add images using the Editor?

You can add any image to your flipbook as long as it’s in .png or .jpeg format and doesn’t exceed the 50 Mb size limit.

There are two ways to insert an image:

  • Inline image - adds the image as a non-clickable part of the page, on top of your content. You can use inline images to replace outdated pictures in your book without replacing the whole PDF. Or you can also add a transparent .png image over some of the items in your catalog to indicate that they are currently “On sale” or “Temporarily sold out”.

    While inline images are non-clickable by default, you can add a link on top of it. Make sure you add the link after you add the image. Otherwise, it will take a higher position on the page and go over the link. Ordering matters here.

  • Pop-up image - adds a clickable version of the image that opens in the pop-up window every time you click on it. Pop-up images are great to show a high-quality picture of your item or display it from a different angle.

To add an image to your flipbook follow these steps:

  1. Open your flipbook in the Editor mode;
  2. Use the paginator at the bottom to move to the page where you want to add your image;
  3. Click on Inline Image or Pop-up Image in the menu pane on the left-hand side;

  4. You can now add an image from your device, but it is also possible to add an image from the internet.
    • If you want to use an image from your local device, then you can either drag-and-drop it onto the drop area or click on Choose image and select it from a folder on your device.
    • If you want to use an image from the internet, then you can use Insert link to image, paste the URL to the image, and press Confirm. We will insert a copy of that image into your flipbook. This means that the image in your flipbook will stay unchanged even if the online version is changed or deleted.

  5. Adjust the size and position of your image as required.
    • Click on the image and keep the mouse pressed to drag it to the desired position.
    • Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to nudge the Image by a single pixel into its final position.
    • Resize the image by clicking on one of the edges and drag to the desired size.
  6. When done, press Finish to save your work.

You can set the following options for your images in the Settings pane on the right-hand side:

  • For Pop-up images you can indicate whether or not you want to Show a preview. If your page already contains relevant content (e.g. an image, text, or button) that triggers the pop-up, then you can turn the preview off and adjust the size and position of your pop-up image to match the size and position of your content. The clickable area will become transparent.
  • Position and size - You can also change the position and size of your images manually. This way you can align them pixel-perfect with other objects that you add to the page. When you change either Width or Height, the other will be changed proportionally. If you want to change the width without affecting the height, then click on the small lock-icon first.

If you want to delete your image, just click the Remove Image button at the bottom of the Editor.

It’s also possible to replace an image with another and keep the same size and settings. Just click the Replace Image button and select the new image from the folder on your computer or paste a URL to a new image.

Note! We resize all images you add to the flipbook, making them smaller by default. This allows us to speed up the page loading process and improve the general user experience. If you would like to make it even better we recommend using free online tools for resizing your image before adding it to the flipbook.

How to work with animated GIFs using the editor?

If you use FlippingBook Online Advanced, Team, or Enterprise plan, then you can spice up your flipbooks with animated GIFs. You can add GIF-images to your flipbooks with a size of up to 50 Mb.

While widely known for their meme-potential, GIFs have a great business potential as well: Larger gifs can be used as alternatives for short videos, without the need for a video player. But you can also use them for animated infographics, 360-degree images of your products, visual explanations in training documents, or animated icons or borders to attract attention to e.g. new products or important content. If you don't have any suitable GIFs yet, head over to our article How to make your own GIFs for some tips and inspiration!

To add an image to your flipbook follow these steps:

  1. Open your flipbook in the Editor mode;
  2. Use the arrows next to the page or the paginator at the bottom to move to the page where you want to add your GIF;
  3. Press the Animated GIF button in the menu on the left-hand side of the Editor;

    You can now add a GIF -file from your device, but it is also possible to add a GIF from the internet.
    • If you want to use a GIF from your local device, then you can either drag-and-drop it onto the light-blue drop area or click on Choose GIF and select it from a folder on your device.
    • If you want to use a GIF from the internet, then you can use Insert Link to GIF, paste the URL to the GIF, and press Confirm. We will insert a copy of that GIF into your flipbook. This means that the image in your flipbook will stay unchanged even if the online version is changed or deleted.
  4. Adjust the size and position of your GIF (indicated by a purple rectangle) as required.
    • Click on the GIF and keep the mouse pressed to drag it to the desired position.
    • Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to nudge the GIF by a single pixel into its final position.
    • Resize the GIF by clicking on one of the edges and drag to the desired size.
  5. When done, press Finish to save your work.

You can set the following options for your GIFs in the Settings pane on the right-hand side:

  • Autoplay - when enabled your GIF will play immediately when the page is opened and the GIF is loaded. Note that on mobile devices, Autoplay will only work for GIFs up to 1MB in size. For larger GIFs, your readers will have to tap on the GIF to play it on mobile devices. This is by design: mobile users often have a slower connection (making pages with GIFs very slow to load) and sometimes limited data bundles (even if they have a fast connection, their data bundle may be depleted quickly by a couple of 40MB GIFs).
  • Loop animation - when enabled, your GIF-animation will replay from the start when finished and keep continuously looping.
  • Position and size - You can also change your GIFs position and size manually. This way you can align them pixel-perfect with other objects that you add to the page. When you change either Width or Height, the other will be changed proportionally. If you want to change the width without affecting the height, then click on the small lock-icon first.

If you want to delete your GIF, just click the Remove GIF button at the bottom of the Editor.

It’s also possible to replace a GIF with another without deleting it. This will keep the same size and settings. Just click the Replace GIF button and select the new GIF from the folder on your computer or paste a URL to a new image.
