Shift Content in FlippingBook Online
Shift Content is a feature that allows you to move your custom content (videos, links, mages etc.) from one page to another. Also, it can help you to delete your interactive elements from your flipbook pages.
This feature can be useful if you add any custom content to your flipbook and after that, you want to replace the original PDF with another one where you have added, deleted or moved one or several pages of it. In such cases, the content you have added will end up on the wrong page.
Using our Shift Content feature you will be able to transfer your custom content to the correct pages in one or two clicks.
In this article we will tell you about:
- general instructions on what our Shift Content feature is and how to use it
- the most common use cases of the feature
- shifting your content for different-sized pages
The Shift content feature is available in your Editor. Just open it and the button Shift elements will be available at the bottom of it. Here is what it looks like:
Once you click on the Shift elements button, the Shift interactive elements window appears:
Here is what every field from the Shift interactive elements window means in detail:
- The 1st dropdown box shows the first page from which you want to move your interactive elements;
- The 2nd dropdown box shows the last page with the interactive elements that should be moved;
- The direction whether to move your custom content to the left or the right should be chosen by the arrows ← and →;
- The last box of the Shift interactive elements window shows the number of pages your custom content should be moved.
Note! If you move content to the page that doesn’t exist (for example, we have 7 pages and we shift the last page by 1 page) the custom content will be deleted.
Once you specify these parameters and click on the button Shift, your custom elements will be moved according to your request.
Note! Make sure you apply the Shift Content option to your flipbook by clicking Shift and Finish in your Editor before you add any further interactive elements. Otherwise, your new elements will be moved to the incorrect pages.
Your steps with the custom elements can be undone and redone by the corresponding buttons Undo/Redo located at the bottom of your Editor:
Use cases and examples
Let’s look into several of the most popular examples of how and where our Shift Content feature can be useful.
You added extra pages to your original PDF
Let’s say that we have a flipbook with 5 pages with the custom content located like this:
We decide to insert 2 additional pages to the original PDF between pages number 2 and number 3:
After we replace the PDF in the flipbook we get 7 pages flipbook with the custom content located on the wrong pages (you can find the old numbers of pages in brackets):
To correct this, we use the Shift Content feature and shift the content starting from page 3 by 2 pages:
After that we get the result with the correct location of custom content:
Tip💡If it looks like things went wrong and have shifted your custom content incorrectly, you can Undo changes. It can be done by the combination Ctrl+Z / Command+Z or the undo icon.
You removed some pages from your original PDF
Let’s say that we have the 13 pages flipbook with the custom content located like this:
We intend to replace it with a PDF where pages 5-7 will be deleted:
After that we get the flipbook with 10 pages where some of the custom content is in the wrong places. Pages 6 and 7 still contain old content, but these pages have now been removed. Pages 8 -10 still exist, but in the new situation have become 5-7:
Here, Shift Content action will be in 2 steps:
- First of all, we need to delete the custom content of deleted pages. To do this, we shift the range from 5-7 by 10 pages. This way we move the content to pages that don't exist so that the custom content will be deleted.
- To return custom content back to the correct pages, we should choose the page 8 (the first page after the range that we deleted) and shift your content back by 3 pages(the number of deleted pages):
These are the 2 most common situations when you need to use our Shift Content feature. If your case is a bit different or you are in doubt, please contact our support team for help.
Shifting your content for different-sized pages
In most flipbooks, all pages have the same size. If this is not the case with your flipbook, then we urge you to be extremely careful with this functionality. It can easily lead to unexpected results. Once you use the Shift Content feature for any different-sized flipbook, we show the warning:
If you move your content from one page to another and these pages have different sizes, your content will change its location or its size. For example, it can happen when the second page is smaller than the first one.
Also in case you shift your content from a wide page to a regular-sized page, its location will change according to a new page size. So if you put your interactive content on the right side of a wide page after you move the content it will change its location to fit the regular-sized page:
