How to move content to other pages?

Shift Elements is a feature that allows you to move any content (videos, links, images, etc.) you have added to a flipbook sideways by one or more pages. The main reason to do this is when you add custom content to your flipbook and later replace the original PDF with another one, but you added or removed some pages from the new PDF. In such cases, some or all of your content can end up on the wrong page.

In this article we will tell you about:

The Shift Elements feature is located in the bottom menu of the Editor.

When you click on the Shift elements button, the Shift interactive elements window appears:

Here is what every field from the Shift interactive elements window means in detail:

  • The 1st dropdown box shows the first page from which you want to move your interactive elements;
  • The 2nd dropdown box shows the last page with the interactive elements that should be moved;
  • The direction whether to move your custom content to the left or the right should be chosen by the arrows ← and →;
  • The last box of the Shift interactive elements window shows the number of pages your custom content should be moved.

Warning! If you move content to the page that doesn’t exist the custom content will be deleted.

The grey textbox below describes the effect that your parameters will have. When you click the Shift button, your custom elements will be moved accordingly.

Note! Make sure you apply the Shift Content option to your flipbook by clicking Shift and Finish in your Editor before you add any further interactive elements. Otherwise, your new elements will be moved to the incorrect pages.

Your steps with the custom elements can be undone and redone by the corresponding buttons Undo/Redo located at the bottom of your Editor:

Use cases and examples

Let’s look into several examples where Shift Elements is helpful.

You added extra pages to your original PDF

Let’s say that we have a flipbook with 5 pages. You added the custom content like below (the small blue boxes show where your links and videos were added):

We decide to insert 2 additional pages to the original PDF between pages 2 and 3:

After we replaced the PDF, we got a 7-page flipbook but some content is on the wrong pages! Your content is still on pages 3,4 and 5. But your old pages 3, 4 and 5 have now become pages 5, 6 and 7.

To correct this, we use the Shift Elements feature and shift the content starting from page 3 by 2 pages to the right:

After that, we get the result with the correct location of custom content:

Tip💡If it looks like things went wrong and have shifted your custom content incorrectly, you can Undo changes. It can be done by the combination Ctrl+Z / Command+Z or the undo icon.

You removed some pages from your original PDF

Let’s say that we have the 13-page flipbook with the custom content located like this:

We intend to replace it with a PDF where pages 5-7 will be deleted:

After that, we get a 10-page flipbook but some custom content is in the wrong place. Pages 6 and 7 still contain elements that belonged to pages that have been removed. Pages 8 -13 still exist, but in the new situation have become 5-10:

Here, we need two steps to achieve the desired result:

  1. First, we need to get rid of the content that belonged on pages 5-7 which are now deleted. To do this, we shift the range from 5-7 by at least 6 pages to the right. This way we move the content to (non-longer existent) pages 11-13 so it disappears. You can move it even further than 6 pages.

  2. Next, we move the content on pages 8-10 back to the correct pages, we choose page 8 (the first page after the range that we deleted) and shift all content from page 8 to the last page on the back by 3 pages (the number of pages we deleted):

These are the two most common situations when you need to use Shift Elements. If you have a more difficult situation (for example, when you have removed several ranges in your new PDF) or you are unsure if you are doing it correctly, please contact our support team. We will be glad to help!

Shifting your content for different-sized pages

In most PDFs, all pages are the same size. If this is not the case with your flipbook, and you use the Shift Elements feature, we show a warning. We advise you to be extremely careful as this can easily lead to unexpected results.

If you move your content from one page to another and these pages have different sizes, your content will change its location or size.

If you shift your content from a wide page (a.k.a spread) to a regular-sized page, its location will change according to the new page's size. For example, if you had content that was fully or partially on the right-hand side of a wide page (2-3 below) and you move it to a regular page (page 4 below), then after you shift the content, it will be 'pushed back' to fit onto the regular-sized page.

If you see this warning, we advise you to carefully check where your content ends up after shifting, and Undo the change if the cure is worse than the disease!
