• Troubleshooting guide

FlippingBook Online functions well most of the time. However, sometimes when the conversion process is too difficult, your PDF has too many pages or because of some other reasons, you might encounter issues with your FlippingBook Online publication. In most cases, you can reach our Customer Support directly at support@flippingbook.com, and we will be happy to assist you. However, some of these issues could be easily resolved prior to that with the solutions listed below:

Your publication looks different from your original PDF.

FlippingBook Online can sometimes struggle with importing complex PDFs correctly, if the standard settings are used. However, this can be resolved in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Here are the steps you should take to fix your PDF:

  1. Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro and go to File -> Save As -> Other -> PostScript. Select a new name.
  2. After the PostScript file is generated, double click on it. This will open a window in Adobe Distiller, which will generate a new PDF file. If you don't have Adobe Distiller installed, there are some free websites that can do the same operation, for example, this one.
  3. If you are using Adobe Distiller for converting your Postscript file, please make sure that High Quality Print is chosen by default.

Wait for the progress bar to show that the conversion is complete and then try to import the generated PDF into FlippingBook Online.

If for some reason this issue isn’t resolved even after you save the PDF as a postscript, please, contact our Customer Support at support@flippingbook.com.

You see the error message: “The publication cannot be created because the size of your PDF exceeds the 500 MB limit.”

You can try to fix this problem by optimizing your PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro. To do this, please, follow the steps below:

  1. Open your PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  2. Go to File -> Save as other -> Optimized PDF.
  3. Make the PDF compatible with Acrobat 4.0 or later.
  4. Untick everything but for Images, Fonts, Transparency.
  5. Press OK. A new PDF will be created for you.

When your optimized PDF is ready, import it into FlippingBook Online.

If the above solution doesn’t work, we have another one for you. You can reduce the file size in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Here is what you need to do:

  1. Open your PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  2. Go to File -> Save As.
  3. Tick the option Reduce File Size.
  4.  Save your file.

When your smaller PDF is ready, import it into FlippingBook Online.

You see the error message: “We couldn’t convert your PDF file due to an unknown error.”

If you get this error, please, try to distill your PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro. In most cases, it helps to fix the issue. Please, take the following steps:

You see the error message: “Something bad has happened. Check browser console for details.”

Most often this error could be solved by clearing the browser cache (either by pressing [Ctrl]+[F5] or by pressing [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[Delete] and choosing to clear to cache in a pop-up window), but if it doesn't help, then please send the link to the page where you've encountered this error along with the screenshots of Console and Network tabs of your browser's Developer Tools. Here's how they can be obtained.

You see the error message: “The publication cannot be created because the number of pages in your PDF file exceeds the 2000-page limit.”

Unfortunately, there is a page limit for the PDF files you can use in FlippingBook Online. They cannot be larger than 2000 pages. We actually talk about these limitations in our article System Requirements for FlippingBook Online. So in this case, please, shorten your PDF document or separate it into multiple catalogs.

You’re trying to import your PDF, a part of it uploads, but then the software hangs.

When the server is busy and the conversion is difficult, the conversion itself can sometimes time out. In this case, please, wait for half an hour and then try to import your PDF again. If this doesn’t work for you, please, contact us, so that we could look into it for you.

You see the error message: “The selected PDF file is password-protected. To create a publication, please remove the password and try again.”

Due to the technical specifications of FlippingBook Online, the software cannot automatically convert password-protected PDF files. Before uploading your PDF, please, have any passwords removed from it.

You see the error message: “Looks like something went wrong. Please, try again or let us look into this issue.”

Please, send us a detailed message: attach the PDF you used (if your file is less than 20MB then you can simply attach it to your message, but if it is larger than that then please use a file sharing service like WeTransfer.com, and send us the download link) and describe the actions you took, the browser, its version and the operating system you used. We will be happy to help.
