What customization options are available?

FlippingBook Online offers a variety of settings to customize your publications. You can change their look and feel, adjust their interface and privacy settings, and more! Even better, you can save your settings as default for future or existing flipbooks!

To start customizing your flipbook settings, go to the list of your flipbooks, hover over the flipbook you'd like to customize, and click the Customize option.

Title & Description


The Title and Description that you give to your flipbooks are important! The title is used in several places:

  • in the header in the top left corner of your flipbook;
  • when someone finds your flipbook in a search engine;
  • when sharing it on social media;
  • in the browser tab.

Apart from the title, we also use the description when you share your flipbook on social networks.

Having the right Title and Description is important if you make your flipbook Public. Setting your flipbook as Public makes it available to search engines. They use this info when showing your publication in the search results.

By default, we use the Title field from your PDF as the flipbook title. If the PDF has no title, we use the filename instead.  

 

Skin

A Skin is a ready design for your flipbook interface. It consists of preset colors, menu bars, and a background image. We have created more than 50 different skins for all occasions. Feel free to select one that best fits your content.

Branding

Branding options give you visual customization options. You can enhance your publication by adding your brand image.

The Call-to-action button is available in all our plans. The premium branding features set (Logo, Favicon, Background Image, and Color Palette) is available for you to explore inside the Customize option. However, to apply those features to your flipbook, you will need to have Optimal or higher plan.

  • Call-to-Action: This enables a CTA button to the top right corner of your flipbook, with a text and URL of your choice. We have a separate article that describes all the ins and outs of the CTA button.
  • Logo: You can replace the FlippingBook logo with your own, or remove it completely.
  • Background Image: Upload an image as a background for your publication.
  • Color Palette: Set the colors for the navigation elements of your flipbook. Here you can learn how to change the Color Settings for your flipbook.
  • Favicon: Replace (or remove) the favicon of your publication. A favicon is a small icon associated with a website or webpage. It is usually displayed in the browser's address bar and tab, and in bookmarks/favorites.

Controls

In this section, you can configure the buttons and panels that your readers see. You can enable/disable options like text selection, searching, adding notes, or printing the original PDF for them. Keep in mind that some of the interface elements won’t look the same on mobile devices:

Disabling any of these buttons turns off the feature associated with them. For example, disabling the Sound button removes the button from the interface and also turns off the flipping sound effect.

Note! ⚠️ Disabling the Search button only turns off the search icon. If you want to allow/prevent search engines from indexing your publication, that is possible by changing the privacy settings.

Pinned Sidebar: Choose if a sidebar will be opened when your flipbook is loaded. This sidebar can contain your Table of Contents, Thumbnails of your pages, or the Search or Notes panel if you want to encourage your visitors to search/add notes.

 

Privacy

The Privacy section offers different privacy settings for your flipbooks. Password and Protected Embed are available with the Advanced plan or higher.

Lead Capture Form

A Lead Capture Form is a useful tool for your marketing purposes. It adds a screen to your publication asking your readers to fill in some information before reaching a certain page. The information collected is available to you on the Stats page of the flipbook. By adding a Lead Capture Form, you can track who accesses your content and how they interact with it. This feature is available with the FlippingBook Online Optimal or higher.

 
 

Settings

Other configuration options can be found in Settings.

  • Accessibility is about making your flipbooks accessible to everyone. You can add an accessible PDF version of your flipbook that is compliant with ADA or WCAG standards. You can find more information in our Accessibility in FlippingBook Online article.
  • Page Turn Mode - Switch between default Flip mode and Slide mode
  • Book Layout - controls whether a flipbook is displayed as spreads or single pages. Unlike Slide mode, the 1-page layout keeps the flipping effect intact. Works best in flipbooks with wide landscape pages.
  • Shadow Depth - This setting allows you to control the shadow depth between the pages. You can also completely disable the shadow if you feel like it affects your content integrity.
  • Page Numeration Offset - Controls the page numeration, both in the paginator in the top panel and in the URL (by default, the numbering starts at 1). For example: If you set the offset as 3, then the 4th page of your book will get page number 1. All previous pages will be labeled with Roman numerals. Books often use such numeration offsets for the introductory chapter.
    You can also use a negative offset. For example, if you use -2, then the first page will get page number 3, the second page will have page number 4, etc. 
  • In-Page Pop-Up Navigation –If enabled, allows your readers to browse between all image galleries and pop-up images on the opened pages. Disable the setting to let them open only one pop-up image or gallery at a time.
  • Fixed Zoom mode - If your readers are zoomed in and then turn the page, the next page will also be opened zoomed in. This feature makes the reading experience more comfortable. Many readers zoom in to make it easier to read the text. So if they stay zoomed in, it will prevent the need for zooming in again every time they flip a page.
    Depending on the content of your publication, this behavior can be less desirable. In such cases, you can disable the Fixed Zoom mode.  
  • Hardcover – With this setting turned on, your flipbook will look like a hardback book.
  • Book Thickness – Gives your flipbook a more realistic and print-like feel. The thickness even changes dynamically when you flip the pages.
  • Link Highlighting – With this setting enabled, all links on a page will be highlighted once your reader opens that page.
  • Right-to-left – This option allows you to set the page-flipping direction in case your flipbook is in an RTL language.

Hardcover and Book Thickness are available in Starter and higher plans. The In-Page Pop-Up Navigation feature is available with Optimal or higher.

 

Can I save my flipbook setting as default?

Yes! Your flipbook settings can be saved as default for future and existing uploads. This might come in handy when you need your publications to share a common style and preferences. You won’t have to select your settings manually, which can save you time and effort.

There are two ways to apply your flipbook's settings as default:

1. From the Customize menu:

  1. Once you have configured the settings for your flipbook, tick the Make settings default for future flipbooks box before hitting the Finish button.
  2. Press the Finish button. You will be automatically redirected to the list of your flipbooks.  

2. Save settings as default directly from the account page:

  1. Open the list of your flipbooks.
  2. Hover over the flipbook you'd like to change and choose the Save settings as default option from the three-dot button menu: 
  3. Apply the settings to existing books in the current folder or future flipbooks (regardless of the folder). Or both at the same time:

Details to be aware of when saving your flipbook settings as default:

  • Lead Capture Form: If it is set on a page unavailable in your new publication, it will be on the last page. For example: When saving the settings as default, you set the form on page 10. Then, you create a new flipbook that contains 8 pages in total. The form will be on page 8.
  • Default settings will apply to your new uploads only. To apply the settings to existing flipbooks in the same folder:
    1. Go to your account page. Hover over the flipbook you will take the default settings.
    2. Choose the Save settings as default option from the three-dot button menu.
    3. Check the Apply to all flipbooks in the current folder box and hit Save to confirm.
  • Default settings for future flipbooks are updated regardless of the folder. For example: You have two flipbooks located in different folders. You save settings as default from the flipbook in folder A. If later you save as default from the flipbook in folder B, it will overwrite the settings.
  • Is not possible to save default settings for:
    1. Right-to-left page flip direction
    2. Flipbook title
    3. Accessibility
    4. Custom Domain (if you have multiple Custom Domains)
