At FlippingBook, we are passionate about improving your readers’ experience with their publications.
That’s why over the past few months we’ve been working on making FlippingBook publications more accessible for people with disabilities. We believe that creating accessible documents makes for better content overall.
And we added some new video tweaks, too. So let’s take a look at the new features right away.
Making Your Digital Publications More Accessible
#1 Accessible PDF
Now you can make an accessible version of the PDF that will be available for download from your publication. This means that people with disabilities who want to read the content of your publication can now download an accessible PDF and read it with the help of assistive technologies. This is a good way for you to bridge the accessibility gap and make your content available to a much wider audience.
You can read more about making your PDFs accessible using Adobe Acrobat here.
#2 Screen reader
Any client can now use a screen reader to navigate around a publication and download the accessible PDF. Screen readers can give spoken descriptions to the UI elements, so it will be easier for your clients to navigate to an accessible PDF, download it, and then read it. This helps you to make your publications more accessible for people with visual disabilities.
#3 Keyboard navigation
Your readers can now use the keyboard to work with the publication’s interface. Keyboard accessibility is one of the most important aspects of content accessibility because many assistive technologies rely on keyboard-only navigation: visually impaired users and users with motor disabilities typically use a keyboard for navigating.
Adding More Options for Your Videos
#1 Private video embedding
You can now upload a video to YouTube, Vimeo, or Wistia, apply any viewing restrictions (for example, protect it with a password or domain, open it for authorized users or your followers only), and then embed it into your publication. Your clients will enter a password or log in to their accounts to see your video right inside the publication. It can be very handy when you want your videos to be available only to the right audience.
#2 Custom video preview
Now you can set a custom preview for a video—choose a preview from the video itself or upload your own image. Add something bright and engaging, or something informative, so that your clients want to click Play immediately.
