How to restrict access to specific users?
If you want only specific people to open your flipbooks, FlippingBook Online offers two ways to restrict access:
- Email/domain authorization
- Single Sign-On (SSO) authorization
Both options let you set up a group of authorized users so only people from that group can open your flipbook links.
Note! Email/domain authorization is available in Advanced and higher plans, while SSO authorization is available solely in Enterprise plan.
They can be helpful for financial reports, internal newsletters, confidential documentation, and other content that should only be available to selected readers.
Which option should you choose?
| Email/domain authorization | Single Sign-On (SSO) | |
| Available on | Advanced and higher plans | Enterprise |
| Best for | Restricting access by email address or company domain | Organizations that already use SSO |
| Setup | Easy setup, no technical knowledge required | Requires setup with your IT team |
| Reader access | Readers verify their email with a code | Readers sign in through your organization’s SSO provider |
| Reader experience | A new code is required every 30 days | Automatic access if the reader is already signed in and authorized |
| Access management | You can create different access groups for different flipbooks | Access is managed through your SSO system |
| Security | Secure, but authorization codes can be forwarded | Best option for organizations with strict security requirements |
Not sure which option is right for you? Choose email/domain authorization if you want a simple setup without involving your IT team. Choose SSO if your organization already uses Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Google Workspace, or another identity provider. Or book a meeting with one of our specialists to discuss the possibilities!
Restrict access by email or domain
Use email/domain authorization if you want your flipbook to be available only to specific email addresses or domains, for example, all addresses ending in @yourcompany.com.
When someone opens the flipbook, we verify that they are allowed to access it. If they open the flipbook for the first time, they need to enter a six-digit authorization code sent to their email address.
The image below shows how your reader opens the flipbook in this case:
Choose email/domain authorization if:
- you want a simple setup without technical help;
- you need to restrict access by email address or domain;
- you want to create different access groups for different flipbooks;
- you share flipbooks with external readers who are not part of your organization’s SSO system.
Things to keep in mind
- Readers must enter a new authorization code every 30 days.
- The authorization code email may be delayed, filtered, or end up in the spam folder.
- Authorization codes can be forwarded to other people.
For setup instructions, see our guide on restricting access to authorized emails or domains.
Restrict access with Single Sign-On (SSO)
Use SSO authorization if your organization manages user access through an identity provider such as Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, or Google Workspace.
When someone opens the flipbook, we automatically verify their identity through your organization’s SSO provider. If the reader is part of the authorized group and already signed in, the flipbook opens automatically.
Choose SSO authorization if:
- your organization already uses Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Google Workspace, or another identity provider;
- you want the most secure access option;
- you want readers to access flipbooks without entering email authorization codes;
- you want access to be managed centrally through your SSO system.
Things to keep in mind
- SSO setup requires help from your IT team.
- You can create one access group and use it to restrict access to any or all of your flipbooks, but you can't set up different groups for different flipbooks.
- Any changes to the access group must be managed through your SSO system.
